Privacy policy
Gravbreak Labs builds Sonalo. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does with your data. The short version: your practice data lives on your device, and the only clips that ever leave it are the ones you explicitly ask to be scored or translated — and those are deleted immediately after.
1. Stored on your device only
Your voice recordings, practice history, custom practice items, star ratings and progress are stored only on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server unless you use one of the features described in section 4.
2. Microphone
The microphone permission is used solely to record your voice for pronunciation practice. Recordings stay on your device and can be deleted at any time from Me → Data management → Delete all data, or by uninstalling the app.
3. Notifications
The notification permission is used only to send the daily practice reminder you choose to enable. You can turn reminders off at any time in Me → Daily reminder.
4. Network use
Sonalo connects to a cloud speech service (Azure AI Speech) through our own proxy server to:
- Synthesize reference audio and fetch the voice catalog. Only the text you choose to practise is sent, and it is not stored or used for anything else.
- Score your pronunciation when you tap Check now. That clip is transcribed, scored against the expected text and deleted immediately afterwards. Clips longer than 20 seconds are not uploaded.
- Translate what you say in the Custom tab (speak & translate). That clip is transcribed and translated, then deleted. Clips longer than 10 seconds are not uploaded.
- Score the recordings you submit with a stage test. The same rules apply: transcribed, scored, deleted.
No account is required. We do not collect personal data for advertising or analytics, and we do not sell anything to anyone.
5. Subscriptions
Purchases are handled by Google Play. We never see your payment details. We only receive the purchase status needed to unlock the paid features, which is stored on your device and refreshed when Google Play notifies the app.
6. Data deletion
You can delete all practice data at any time from Me → Data management → Delete all data. Deleting data cannot be undone. Uninstalling the app removes the local database with it.
7. Children
Sonalo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version is shown in the app and on this page, with a new “last updated” date.
